New from Epic for the 2009/2010 season is our Length-Lock 2 (LL2), which has replaced the original and industry changing Length-Lock™, introduced by Greg Barton of Epic Kayaks nearly 10 years ago.
Our new LL2 features a lever locking system, a simple one-piece design that replaces the inner/outer collar set-up of the original Length-Lock™.
Our testing has shown that the LL2 is a superior locking mechanism; easier to operate while providing a more solid connection in a more durable package.
While the lever operation is new, the adjustment concept is the same. Simply open the lever lock, fix the lock on the appropriate length/feather angle setting on the ferrule, and then close the lever. The paddle is now ready to use.
Maintenance and storage have also been simplified. As the components are all part of one-piece, there is no risk of losing any parts. No waxes or lubricants are required for fit or grip. Simply rinse the LL2 down with fresh water after use, wipe away any grime or debris, and separate the paddle halves for storage. (To avoid excessive wear on the components do not store any paddle assembled with the lever locked tight.)
Starting in August 2009 all Epic paddles will be shipped with the new LL2. The original Length-Lock™ will no longer be available, neither for new paddles or paddles sent to us for repair. All paddles sent to Epic for length lock repair/warranty will be returned with the new LL2.
Paddle upgrades are not available at this time. Only paddles that are received new or that have been repaired with authorization from Epic will have the LL2. When appropriate inventories and retrofit procedures are in place we will announce opportunities for upgrading from the original Length-Lock™ to the LL2.
